I'm glad I decided to acquire the box set in "The Drift Series" for less than $1, as I'm sure I wouldn't have brought each book separately for the asking price otherwise.I did enjoy each of the 3 stories in this box set, and would like to read more, as the storyline is becoming so much more interesting and the plot thickens with each book, that I'm now all for acquiring book 4 in this series.Each book centres around Cyborg soldiers after the Resource War, and their right to live and love free within the civilian population, after almost being destroyed by the powers that be, all because they were not born, but made in a lab.Each book draws you in, leaving you wanting to know what happens next, and how it will all play out in the end.Lies, betrayals, misunderstandings, evil bad guys, Cyborg alpha male's and female's, A Blue skinned sexy pilot and so much more, with a sizzling amount of heat.I would recommend you give this box set, for less than a dollar, a try and decide for yourself.For me personally, by the end of the 3rd book, I thought it was worth more then the asking price.

I bought the Drift collection as a bookbub deal. I've never read anything by her before, I'm so very happy I took the chance. I love cyborg romances and this one has a new take that I enjoyed reading. Zura, Kit and Luke's story was passionate, and beautifully told. Three beings looking for love and total acceptance of who they were and who they've become. When they fix each other they find a would feel bond and a true place to call home. Book 2 involved Cynder, Jaeger and Toro 's relationship. Each of these lone!y souls deeply scared from war and the abuse they endured from the corporations. Together they find away to learn how to trust again and find a love and true acceptance that neither of the 3 have experienced. They also being to uncover deeper secrets from their past that will have serious consequences for three future. The last of the box set is Lieksa, Dash and Mack's story this one gets further involved in the corporation 's secrets that threaten to ruin the good life that the cyborgs and their mates have built. Friendships and true families have been formed and knowledge is power but it can also bring danger. These 3 started out as a very taboo secret if caught the consequences would have been dire. Each thought the other was dead and by happenstance are brought together again . Love reigns and these 3 hold on to Each other for dear life as they hunt down an assassin and uncover more secrets that bring everyone together! Along with all the danger a d intrigue passion and love rule the day! I can't wait to read more!💖💖💖

All the stories were good, and kept me interested, with likable characters, but to be honest, I had a couple of these separately and only vaguely remembered them as I reread them. After reading the blurbs of future books- I don't recognize their characters except for Book 4. So I will be looking for that one, (and the others) but only if they're deeply, deeply, discounted. Even writing this was hard for me to remember the details in these stories, and like I said- a couple of them I was rereading. Sorry.

The Drift series was my first introduction to Ms. Hayes and I am so glad I picked up Double Down (book 1)This series has all the elements I love - multiple books that can be read as standalones but better in sequence, plenty of romance, action and suspense, and a story line that links them together while giving the characters a HEA. Well written and plotted, if you like syfy romance give it a try. Enjoy!

I love Alpha🐺🍆🌋🔪 alien adult romance! Unfortunately, this gabfest doesn't really fit the bill. I was 😞disappointed in the three books included here. Way too much inane dialogue and not enough adventures and action.Most of it could have been any contemporary romance on 🌎Earth if you take out The word Cyborg.The books are well written but the overall story is BORING.

Great read!

I enjoy stories about cyborgs and these were very entertaining. I like the characters, how they interact and the plot in each is engrossing. The author keeps you reading from start to finish.

Stephan Talty has not only provided an exhaustively in-depth look at the "Golden Age of Piracy," but has thoroughly explained the WHYS it came about--from the greed of countries down to the hopelessness of the individual. The sub-plot of Spain's role in the pillage/rape of the "new world" was intensely interesting. Ultimately though, what nature gives nature takes away, oftentimes with a brutality that exceeds humanity's laughable attempts.

Despite some grammatical errors in the first few chapters, I still have to give this book 5 stars. For anyone who is a history buff, the author has no problem sucking you in making this book extremely difficult to put down. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys history, particularly pirate history and 17th century Caribbean history. All in all, a great read.

I'll be in the Caribbean for 3 weeks in March and always love to read the history of where I travel ... I have enjoyed reading about Captain Morgan and the barbaric tortures and the exploits of pirates. I keep looking up my Google Maps of the Caribbean to find out where Captain Morgan sailed. Unbelievable how brave and daring he was and how many pirates he led at one time. He ordered 500 head of cattle to be slaughtered and put on his ships for one mission. Wow - lot of food for a lot of pirates.

Tracing the career of Captain Morgan, the author provides sufficient context to understand how pirates came into prominence in establishing Jamaica. The role of the pirate is best understood in light of the social, political, and religious norms of the time. This is not a light read but is a treatise that filled in a lot of gaps in my knowledge of the 16th century.

Captain Morgan (working as a privateer for the English) and his band of brothers ravish the Spainish main. Every attack grows more daring and bold. When the Spainish colonists and soldiers hear his name they tremble in fright usually abandoning their cities and forts when Morgan and his men approach. All this ended as a result of treaties between England and Spain forbidding piracy. Captain Morgan retired to his farm on one of the islands.

There are aspects of this book I do not care for. One - he creates a fictional character "Roderick" which is POINTLESS and detracts from the narrative. The history is compelling enough. That really got on my nerves. Two - his use of buccaneer seems off to me from his definition on page 39. I know it has become interchangeable with pirate. Especially after Esquemeling published his book in 1678. I just do not care for his liberal use of the term buccaneer. Morgan was no buccaneer. He was a basically a privateer.The story overall is good. It is easy to follow. The writing style is smooth and enjoyable. The Morgan story is everything you think about when you hear the word "pirate".

I really enjoyed this book. As soon as finished, went out and bought the Illustrious Dead by the same author.Tally does a great job of blending the overall picture, with the little details which makes history come alive. I emerged from the book having a clearer understanding of how Pirates operated on a day to day basis, as well as why the Spanish Empire wasn't able to mount a better defense.

An enlightening book about the history of the Americas and the role of Captain Morgan and his buccaneers in changing the fate of Spain and England in the struggle for control of the Caribbean, Central and South America. Interesting to learn of the pirates and their system of sharing spoils among all participants. Seems like incentivizing any endeavor improves its likelihood of success

I had never tried making lotions before, but after becoming aware of all the harmful ingredients in commercial products and the outrageous prices for 'natural' products, I thought I would give it a try. This book gives you the perfect formula, works everytime, and I can add whatever I like as additives. At first I had difficulty finding the emulsifiers listed in the book, but they have become readily availiable and at reasonable prices. I find them at the hearbie. Read the book several times and ensure you understand the process, I convert the metric measurements to ounces by using resources on the internet to make like a little easier. It doesn't take long to make about 16 ounces of creams or lotions and I've even made hair conditioners as well. The title is misleading as making essential oils is not the only information this book offers. The emulsifiers used in the book are some the most non-toxic I've been able to locate that are availiable to the home lotion maker. I've used beeswax to make lotions before but this is too greasy for my taste, this book provides you with a way to make non-greasy, commercial quality skin care products, quite easily. I don't have a hotplate, I just use the kitchen stove and measuring cups in pans of water. I use a stick blender for the initial mixing, but then revert to a wisk as the stick blender adds too much air into the creams. I love this book and highly recommed it to anyone who wants to make a commercial quality lotion or cream at a fraction of the cost of store prices, that can be customized to your personal needs.

I love the book and all of the details in the book. My only complaint is that some of the suppliers (such as the one for the distiller kit that is used in this book) no longer carry the items that are described! That was disappointing! But otherwise the book is great!

Look no further this is IT. I bought this as a companion to my new still and would have been lost without it. Clear, concise and applicable to the process. It reads and functions just like a cookbook!

He finally achieves an answer in learning that they want mastery of their husbands.This Wife’s Tale begins with Yetemegnu, the real life protagonist, being as far from mastery over her husband as possible—she is a child bride. Symbolically, she is not even permitted to hear a beloved drum at her wedding because of an Ethiopian superstition.Even as she grows into a young woman with children of her own she is completely lorded over by her husband—amidst being forced to stay inside her house and beatings she is hardly able to even claim mastery of herself.All the while she prays to the supreme image of womanhood, Mary the mother of Jesus. According to tradition, Mary was entrusted to the Jewish temple in childhood making her Yetemegnu’s companion in not having the normal joys of youth. Like Yetemegnu she is married at an early age. And like Yetemegnu her part in life is largely defined by her relation to her offspring.Yet, as decades pass and Ethiopia experiences an Italian invasion, a return to monarchy and then Marxism, Yetemegnu begins to assert more control over her life. Her husband is first imprisoned and then dies leaving her with responsibility for the household. Her children grow up and lead modern lives in choosing their own spouses, personal careers and emigration to first world countries.After living nearly a century, Yetemegnu passes away and is given an elaborate funeral with hundreds of priests, government officials and the leading men of her region of Ethiopia. And, at last, a drum is played. She has finally attained the sovereignty over men denied to her in life.St. Mary too, in Christian tradition, was assumed into heaven where she became queen and mother of all the living. Catholic and Orthodox Christians recognize her as the saint of saints and implore her intercession more than any other personage save her son.Here, the parallel reaches its culmination. Yetemegnu, who throughout the book weaves her speech and life with that of St. Mary’s, now achieves, paradoxically, the relief from servitude that followed her during her earthly life. The title of The Wife’s Tale could not be more apt.Again, this is somewhat of a speculative interpretation—and may be over bold from someone with neither a degree in literature or religious studies—but the way in which the author inserts passages from the life of Mary into the book and rather overtly draws these parallels makes me confident this interpretation is consonant with the intention of the author.Yes, the language is poetic and visceral and the book is set in a time and place few in the West understand. But the book is not called A Woman of Ethiopia but The Wife’s Tale. The major theme is a traditional and religious woman’s quest to grow out of extreme servitude into a person who is master of her own life and the lives of those entrusted to her.It is this different but interesting take on feminism that makes this so much more than just a trip to an exotic place. Whether one agrees with this type of feminism or not it is important that feminist voices are heard not only from first world countries. A Wife’s Tale is an unrecognized vision of what feminism can be.

I love the way the author connects the reader with the various aspects of Ethiopia and Ethiopian culture. The differences may be significant, but she puts us into that world and I soon felt connected to the author's grandmother and her family. And I learned so much, not just about the main character but about the history and culture of Ethiopia! I discovered how little I knew, and it was a truly wonderful experience!

I didn't realize until the end that the book was written by the main character's grand-daughter and that it was a memoir of this family. It was written from the vantage point of the Ethiopian "wife". Offered valuable insights into that culture. I read it on a kindle but in paperback, one would have known about the glossary at the end.

I read this in preparation for a reunion of Peace Corps volunteers who'd served in Ethiopia. The book evoked memories of Ethiopian highland culture that was shared by people in a different tribe elsewhere in the country. I found it helpful in providing details about the events following the overthrow of Haile Selassie. The author did a nice job of blending her grandmother's memories with her own.

A first rate chronicle of lesser known country and its travails during the middle of the 20th century, written as a first person experience by the author's grandmother

fascinating account of life in Ethiopia, well written

Great story mixed with historical cultural changes made for a good read.

The author spent 5 years on cruise ships. My wife and I have been on several cruises and really noticed the sparkling white uniforms of the officers but also noticed the workers, painting and repairing wearing overalls. These workers are mainly Phillipino as are the those who clean the rooms, officers mainly white and male. The author first worked as a drummer in the pit band. He loved the cheap booze in the crews mess but room conditions were very spartan and as a worker you couldn't walk among the passengers or enjoy the same food. Crew food was unmentionable, indescribable and unpalatable. At that time crew were allowed to smoke in their rooms but as a non smoker he often found smoke drifting in to his room. Most times crew rooms did not have a ventilation system and locations were near very noisy machines so that ear plugs were a necessity. Crew members did have a slop room, where they could purchase instant foods when they often couldn't stomach the crew mess. He apparently loved the ship's milk, not sure why and one time he and his girlfriend ate cereal morning, noon and supper. My wife and I on cruises often wandered in the art auctions, never had free champagne (which apparently was bad plonk). He and his girlfriend became art auctioneers, and thus became officers, special privileges such as eating better meals and having a better room. They did get commission on what they sold. Greta his girlfriend bought a special gavel to use. His boss told him how to size up people by what they wore, and not to waste time on those people just wanting free drinks. The last ship they served on was a "ship of darkness". The did not get a special room or special considerations. They did visit Venice and Rome and went on a special donkey ride. This book is a special behind the scene look at cruise lines, and that all is not glamorous for those workers who make our lives special when we come aboard for our cruises. Very recommended.

We are cruisers. My wife and I have been cruising about 65 years and have been on almost every ship that sails or has sailed. Started on the QE 1 and the original Queen Mary in 1951. Lots of change has taken place, and this book is a fun read for the first part of it. Unfortunately, the author laboriously goes into extraneous and long winded unnecessary detail in the latter of the book, but as a cruiser, I enjoy reading most of it

I have been reading a lot of books written by frequent cruisers to get some insight into what I've signed up for. And then I run across books by Joshua Kinser. He's a former ship musician and art dealer. I was really intrigued to get a behind the scenes taste of life aboard cruise ships.Boy, did his books pay off!I won't write any spoilers here, and you really may not believe me if I retold some of his stories, anyway, but I came away with some eye opening revelations. I had no idea!Though Mr. Kinser didn't write just to lay bare the crappy conditions cruise crew exist under, I'm sure going to be a lot nicer and more respectful of any crew I meet on my cruise.These books are definitely entertaining as well. Joshua Kinser is a masterful story teller. I enjoyed every story in his Chronicles of a Cruise Ship Crew Member.What are you waiting for? Not exactly what I had expected/hoped for. After going on my first cruise I was interested what it would be like to work on a cruise ship. This is written from a musician's perspective, which isn't exactly what I was looking for. The writer almost has an attitude of "woe is me, my life is so hard" but then turns around and talks about all the fun stuff he gets to do. I don't appreciate some of the language in the book. Overall, it was a mildly interesting read, but I wouldn't recommend it if someone were to ask. I still want to find a book written from a different perspective.

My Star Wars fanatic has spent hours, if not days or weeks, learning about the most obscure details of the galaxy. I don't know when knowing the difference between a nexu and and acklay will come in handy in her life, but when that day comes... ready she will be.

I won't go too far into the basics of the book as there are plenty good reviews here that do that. I will say if you can only have one book go give you information on all sorts of details in the Star Wars movies universe this is the only book you need. It covers characters, events, equipment, weapons, ships, and the background histories of all this stuff too. It's a single source for fleshing out the Star Wars mythos and putting you further into the fantasy George Lucas creates so many decades ago.This book is essentially collecting the pages of all four previous Star Wars Visual Dictionaries into a single volume. Great way to save space on the bookshelf or coffee table, that's for sure. Also a great way to save a little money for you first time buyers by getting just one book instead of three. The one thing about the book (or rather books, as they did it too) is that some characters are on every chapter. Mainly R2-D2... he gets these giant splash pages on every chapter. I mean I love the little, but c'mon!Now between you and me there is more to this collection than reprinting the four previous books into one. There is extra information in here too. Now the chapters covering Episodes one and two are identical to the previous books with the exception of losing the pictures that were on the inside cover and title page. The chapter that covers episode three has an additional 12 pages on top of all the original pages (again... minus the side-photos). Now I never got the original Dictionary on the original trilogy, but I can confirm there are at least four additional pages of content from that section.I'm sure this volume has ticked off devoted fans who bought the previous books, but if you ask me it can still be a worthwhile investment. I'm not just talking about the 16+ extra pages, but the smaller shelf space as well. Think of it this way. Most of you had a few years to enjoy those other Dictionary books before this came out so in the words of an accountant you have already built value from the depreciation. Even if you bought a previous book or three this would still be a great buy (sell your old books, save that book space).I had three of the four previous books and I am glad I have the new volume. This book is a good buy no matter how you slice it.

This is one of the best books written on Star Wars. It covers a very high level of detail concerning the two triologies, presented in the order of movie chronology. Episodes I-III are presented in separate sections, while Episodes IV-VI are combined into one larger section.This book is mostly a rundown of characters. Major characters are offered two pages and/or cutout sections, while more minor characters are given very decent amounts of page space. Besides characters, you learn a great deal about every single weapon and ship used in the six movies, as well as costumes, other equipment, planets visited and more. I never knew such high level of deatil existed on the character backgrounds and weapons, let alone having been studied. It is amazing to know the exact equipment set of each storm trooper, clone trooper, Jedi, as well as R2-D2, vulture droids, you name it, and you will find it.I have never been a huge fan of the expanded Star Wars universe, so I very much appreciate the decision of the authors to concentrate on the canon movie trilogies. You see some tidibts as part of the elaboration of character backgrounds that contain information from expanded universe (for example, Boba Fett having survived the Sarlacc pit), but this is never over-done, and there appears to be a principle to keep most everything within the canon universe. It is chock-full of information and therefore takes a while to finish, but it is a great read, with fun information and very high-resolution photos. Highly recommended and addictive!

My son is a Star Wars fanatic, and he LOVES this book. It is very informative and since he hasn’t seen the pg13 Star Wars films yet (he is 8), he now can feel well informed about the characters in the movies he hasn’t yet seen!

I bought this for my 6 year old who is a Star Wars FREAK. He sat down with this book immediately and has not really stopped looking at it since. He can barely read, but he loves examining all of the characters, and the way they are broken down and labeled is very exciting to him. He likes to see everything that he's seen in the movies, and video game, in full detail.I can't comment on how this book is similar or different to any other book, but I can say, it's very detailed, it covers a lot of information and describes alot of the relationships and uses of the characters & items. My 6 year old can identify way more than I can. This book is well set up, with loads of information and LOTS AND LOTS of details full color high quality photos which is just what we were looking for.Good luck!

I bought this book last Christmas (2008) for my two young sons (5 and 4). They have spent the past year pouring over this book, debating facts about the characters, and writing their own stories to compliment the illustrations in the book. They haven't seen all of the Star Wars films (only A New Hope) but are thrilled by the detailed illustrations and descriptions of the characters, the far away galaxies, and of course the weapons and ships. This is their favorite Star Wars book. As an adult fan of Star Wars I find it is full of great information and back stories about the characters. My husband and I have found answers to many of our Star Wars questions here. This is a great reference and a really fun book.FYI, another great Star Wars reference is [...]. Great fun!
