Review

"[The Sixth Extinction] is a wonderful book, and it makes very clear that big, abrupt changes can happen; they're not outside the realm of possibility. They have happened before, they can happen again." ―President Barack Obama“Riveting . . . It is not possible to overstate the importance of Kolbert's book.” ―San Francisco Chronicle“Arresting . . . Ms. Kolbert shows in these pages that she can write with elegiac poetry about the vanishing creatures of this planet, but the real power of her book resides in the hard science and historical context she delivers here, documenting the mounting losses that human beings are leaving in their wake.” ―The New York Times“Surprisingly breezy, entirely engrossing, and frequently entertaining . . . Kolbert is a masterful, thought-provoking reporter.” ―The Boston Globe“Your view of the world will be fundamentally changed. . . . Kolbert is an astute observer, excellent explainer, and superb synthesizer, and even manages to find humor in her subject matter.” ―The Seattle Times“Powerful . . . An invaluable contribution to our understanding.” ―Al Gore, The New York Times Book Review“Natural scientists posit that there have been five extinction events in the Earth's history (think of the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs), and Kolbert makes a compelling case that human activity is leading to the sixth.” ―Bill Gates“[Kolbert] makes a page-turner out of even the most sober and scientifically demanding aspects of extinction.” ―New York Magazine“Ms. Kolbert's lively account is thought-provoking.” ―The Wall Street Journal“[Kolbert] grounds her stories in rigorous science and memorable characters past and present, building a case that a mass extinction is underway, whether we want to admit it or not.” ―Discover Magazine“Throughout her extensive and passionately collected research, Kolbert offers a highly readable, enlightening report on the global and historical impact of humans . . . a highly significant eye-opener rich in facts and enjoyment.” ―Kirkus (starred review)“The factoids Kolbert tosses off about nature's incredible variety--a frog that carries eggs in its stomach and gives birth through its mouth, a wood stork that cools off by defecating on its own legs--makes it heartbreakingly clear, without any heavy-handed sermonizing from the author, just how much we lose when an animal goes extinct. In the same way, her intrepid reporting from far-off places--Panama, Iceland, Italy, Scotland, Peru, the Amazonian rain forest of Brazil, and the remote one tree Island, off the coast of Australia--gives us a sense of the earth's vastness and beauty.” ―Bookforum“Kolbert accomplishes an amazing feat in her latest book, which superbly blends the depressing facts associated with rampant species extinctions and impending ecosystem collapse with stellar writing to produce a text that is accessible, witty, scientifically accurate, and impossible to put down.” ―Publishers Weekly (starred review)“Rendered with rare, resolute, and resounding clarity, Kolbert's compelling and enlightening report forthrightly addresses the most significant topic of our lives.” ―Booklist (starred review)“An epic, riveting story of our species that reads like a scientific thriller--only more terrifying because it is real. Like Rachel Carson's Silent Spring, Elizabeth Kolbert's The Sixth Extinction is destined to become one of the most important and defining books of our time.” ―David Grann, author of The Lost City of Z“I tore through Elizabeth Kolbert's The Sixth Extinction with a mix of awe and terror. Her long view of extinction excited my joy in life's diversity -- even as she made me aware how many species are currently at risk.” ―Dava Sobel, author of Longitude and Galileo's Daughter“With her usual lucid and lovely prose, Elizabeth Kolbert lays out the sad and gripping facts of our moment on earth: that we've become a geological force, driving vast swaths of creation over the brink. A remarkable addition to the literature of our haunted epoch.” ―Bill McKibben, author Oil and Honey: The Education of an Unlikely Activist“Elizabeth Kolbert's cautionary tale, The Sixth Extinction, offers us a cogent overview of a harrowing biological challenge. The reporting is exceptional, the contextualizing exemplary. Kolbert stands at the forefront of what it means to be a socially responsible American writer today.” ―Barry Lopez, author of Arctic Dreams“The sixth mass extinction is the biggest story on Earth, period, and Elizabeth Kolbert tells it with imagination, rigor, deep reporting, and a capacious curiosity about all the wondrous creatures and ecosystems that exist, or have existed, on our planet. The result is an important book full of love and loss.” ―David Quammen, author of The Song of the Dodo and Spillover“Elizabeth Kolbert writes with an aching beauty of the impact of our species on all the other forms of life known in this cold universe. The perspective is at once awe-inspiring, humbling and deeply necessary.” ―T.C. Boyle, author of San Miguel

I love this book. Its very interesting and well written. It wasn't too difficult of a read. I had to google a couple of things.

Yes, human-caused extinction is upon us in full force. As science journalist extraordinaire Elizabeth Kolbert tells it, we humans have been killing whatever we could whenever we could since the beginning of our tenure here on earth. First the mastodons, the giant sloths, the great flightless birds, the woolly rhino, then the whales, the gorillas, the tigers, the buffalo, etc. The first cause was ignorance. Primitive humans just didn’t know that they were destroying the source of their subsistence until they had to move on. Today we know the truth. And that truth is there is nowhere to move on to. This book is a detailed and fascinating delineation of just what we are doing to the planet and how. From the fishes in the sea to the polar bears on the ice: all fall down. Why? Willful ignorance, stupidity, and the devil take tomorrow.(But it might be said, so what if we kill off all sorts of creatures great and small? We don’t need them. We have our pigs and cows and chickens. We grow corn and soy. Yes, the little foxes are cute and the lions magnificent. But we have zoos and preserves. After you’ve seen a few elephants you don’t need to see vast herds of them.)This is the view of many people in high places in government and at the helms of giant corporations whose main concern is staying in power and improving the bottom line. But here’s the rub: with the extraordinary rate of the current extinction what we might be left with is nearly sterile oceans, stunted scrub forests, destroyed ecologies and starving humans at one another’s throats. Combine that with global warming and desperate leaders flinging nuclear bombs around, and yes, Chicken Little, the sky is falling.Okay, rant over with. Let me say a few things about this splendid book that is so readable and so full of information, humor and the kind of passion that lights up the pages. Kolbert combines research, interviews and fieldwork into a very readable, vivid and informative narrative that is so good that…well, she won the Pulitzer Prize for this book in 2015.Some notes and quotes:“The reason this book is being written by a hairy biped, rather than a scaly one, has more to do with dinosaurian misfortune than with any particular mammalian virtue.” (p. 91)“Warming today is taking place at least ten times faster than it did at the end of the last glaciation, and at the end of those glaciations that preceded it. To keep up, organisms will have to migrate, or otherwise adapt, at least ten times more quickly.” (p. 162)Kolbert notes that during the Pleistocene (2.5 million years ago to about 11,700 years ago) “…temperatures were significantly lower than they are now…,” mainly because the glacial periods tended to be longer than the interglacial periods. What this means is that most life forms are probably not going to be able to deal with the heat “...since temperatures never got much warmer than they are right now.” In other words, we are experiencing an accelerated catastrophe. (p.171)Kolbert describes the red-legged honeycreeper as “the most beautiful bird I have ever seen.” (p. 178) So naturally I had to Google it. It is indeed beautiful. The reader might want to take a look. It’s very blue with some neat black trim and those incongruous red legs!Kolbert observes that we are creating a New Pangaea because our global transport systems are sending plants and animals all around the globe. Instead of the continents moving closer together the plants and animals are moving closer together as on a single continent. (p. 208)A joke: after the journal “Nature” published proof of the existence of the Denisovan hominids because of a DNA-rich finger found in southern Siberia, there came a newspaper headline: “Giving Accepted Prehistoric History the Finger.” (p. 253)As to the “controversy” over what killed off the megafauna in e.g., North and South America, in Siberia, in Australia, Kolbert minces no words and comes down strong on the likely suspect—us. And as for the Neanderthal, ditto. See chapters XI and XII.She writes: “Before humans finally did in the Neanderthals, they had sex with them.” She notes that “most people today are slightly—up to four percent—Neanderthal.” (p. 238) Personally, according to “23 and Me,” I am 3.8% Neanderthal. --Dennis Littrell, author of “Understanding Evolution and Ourselves”

In the excellent THE SIXTH EXTINCTION (TSE), Elizabeth Kolbert briefly discusses the so-called big-five mass extinctions, which had cataclysmic effects on earth’s biodiversity. These mass extinctions and their probable causes are the: End-Ordovician, glaciation; Late Devonian, volcanism; End-Permian, the warming of the oceans, the rampant proliferation of a bacteria that produced hydrogen sulfide, and a consequent greenhouse effect; Late Triassic, ocean acidification; and End-Cretaceous, a gigantic meteor collides with the earth. So, what is the sixth extinction and why is it different? The causes of the five previous mass extinctions were natural catastrophes. The sixth, in contrast, is man-made. And it is occurring now.As she discusses this sixth extinction, Kolbert, follows three narrative strategies. Mostly, she focuses each chapter in TSE on a particular animal that is extinct, on the verge of extinction, or that is becoming increasingly rare. Then, she examines the habitats and vulnerabilities of these animals and the human-induced causes of their decline or demise. These animals and the scourges to their existence include: the golden frog, a fungus, harmless to African frogs, that humans spread through the exigencies of pregnancy tests and fine-dining; great Auks, overhunting; corals, acidification of the oceans; North American brown bats, another fungus, this time originating with immune European bats; white-plumed antbirds, habitat fragmentation and a consequent reduction in army ant colonies, which is their primary food; and megafauna, such as the mastodon and Sumatran rhino, which are doomed by their long gestation periods and human predation.Meanwhile, her second strategy is to focus on environments. In this case, her subjects are: oceans, which are gradually becoming more acidic as they absorb the carbon humans generate through burning fossil fuels; and rain forests, which are losing species because of global warming. Finally, Kolbert examines the attempt by scientists to preserve species that are on the verge of extinction. Here, she visits a frozen zoo, where cells of threatened species are preserved in cryogenic fluid and thereby kept viable. And she discusses actual zoos that have breeding programs for rare animals. The blurbs on my edition of TSE observe that this book is “arresting, riveting, and powerful”. And they describe Kolbert’s writing as “masterful, surprisingly breezy, and engrossing.” All this is true and she gets the final word. “Today, amphibians enjoy the dubious distinction of being the world’s most endangered class of animals… But extinction rates among many other groups are approaching amphibian levels. It is estimated that one-third of all reef-building corals, a third of all fresh-water mollusks, a third of sharks and rays, a quarter of all mammals, a fifth of all reptiles, and a sixth of all birds are headed toward oblivion… If you know how to look, you can probably find signs of the current extinction event in your own backyard.”Highly recommended

I labored through the first 100 pages talking about how people started finding fossils and tried to figure out what they were based on their knowledge at the time, which wasn't much. Various theories emerged including Darwinism. It mentions pervious extinction events. I expected the book to be about our current situation; the disappearance of bees, birds and butterflies. The danger of exposures like electromagnetic frequency radiation from wifi, cell towers, high voltage power lines and 5G. The harm done by glyphosate, manmade food, and all the other things that are creating disease and death. I skipped to the last few pages (265-269) which briefly finally mentioned how "We're seeing right now that a mass extinction can be caused by human beings," but it doesn't get into much detail. Reading this book was a waste of my time. I don't plan to finish it.

This book is over 500 pages, but the layout is outstanding.I am the type of person to read 1-3 page of a book each day at least. The book has chapters, topics, and subsections. Each subsection is organized the same throughout the ENTIRE book...Chater 1... Topic 1 1. Getting ready 2. How to do it. 3. How it works... 4. There's more... 5. See also Topic 2 1. Getting ready 2. How to do it. 3. How it works... 4. There's more... 5. See also. etc.Meaning, that you can pick up from anywhere and learn a little piece at a time with a consistent layout for each topic.I HIGHLY recommend this book, not because it's easy, but it streamlines the information for you in a consistent manner. You can make a "class" or "course" based on one subsection at a time and do it consisitently, developing your skils. Because we ALL understand simple things get done and consistent actions produce the results in our lives.Much luck in your decision to purchase this book for yourself. ^__^

I'm trying to read this book on kindle cloud reader, have it open in one screen while I code in another. The formatting is so bad that the book is unreadable.

This book has helped me out a lot. I am new to python and pandas but this book has made things much clearer. Good explanations with example of codes. Author also explains how each part of the code works and reinforces material learned in previous chapters. Was intimidated by some of the chapters before i started reading once i got to those parts I was no longer worried if i would understand the subject matter.

This is an excellent book if you want to learn pandas and if you want to understand pandas. It covers all cases, clearly explains what and why pandas do, and the chapters are organized really well and it depends on you if you just want to stay on surface or go deeper.

After complete reading the book, I constantly use it for reference whenever I need. Very easy to search for the code snippets I need

A self-regarding preface, if I may. This is my second attempt at reviewing "Pandas Cookbook". The first one was written in a dyspeptic mood - thank you, Kindle Unlimited free trial, for exposing me to the horrors of self-published rip-offs - did not put its emphases right, and was in one regard simply misleading. This prompted criticism from the book's author, supported by detailed objections, and led me to reconsider. I know that there will be a Version 3, already in December, as I will want to compare "Pandas Cookbook" and Daniel Chen's "Pandas for Everyone", which I expect to be both similar and good. I will leave speculation at that, and focus on the present. Before "Pandas Cookbook", I had seen five books about Pandas:"Python for Data Analysis" by Wes McKinney, 2nd ed., 544 pages, 2017"Learning the Pandas Library" by Matt Harrison, 212 pages, 2016"Learning pandas" by Michael Heydt, 504 pages, Packt, 2015"Mastering pandas" by Femi Anthony, 364 pages, Packt, 2015"Python Data Analytics" by Fabio Nelli, 364 pages, Apress, 2015I can confidently say that (a) you don't need to consider books other than McKinney's and Petrou's, and (b) you want to see both, and possibly leave both, depending on your budget and personal preference. The one wrong suggestion in my original review was that PC was "far behind" PDA in terms of coverage. Having checked PDA, however, I realized that PDA did not have many things which I thought I learned from it, but in fact picked up from other sources - Pandas online doc, Stack Overflow, and, early on, Chris Albon's site. Surprisingly, the bread-and-butter "nunique" function, for example, is not in PDA, and neither is "filter" or "query". (I actually learned about "query" from "Pandas Cookbook"; my office Python environment predates Pandas 0.18.0). "Behind" is debatable - or moot: you have bits in one book, and not the other, either way you look - and "far" is false. The upshot is that you can get a good handle on Pandas with either reference. The word "reference" fits PDA better - it has a methodical, clearly structured, but somewhat terse style, reminding me of O'Reilly's "Nutshell" series. PC, on the other hand, is pretty relaxed, and goes at a slower pace, with illustrations that are much more likely to stay with you than McKinney's, because (a) they use real datasets, as opposed to quick artificial ones, (b) often are part of a sequence of steps, providing context and identifying the use case. Packt's no-frills typesetting puts PC at a disadvantage, but it is not too bad.Comparing "Pandas Cookbook" to what was available before, I see and appreciate the qualitative change from (a) reductive digests of McKinney's book, to (b) something that builds on, and complements, McKinney's book. If Chen's book does the same, the Pandas newbie will get even more options. For now, kudos to Ted Petrou for an original and useful book.

Very useful as an introduction for data manuipilation in python.

Splitting this review into two parts: 5 for Petrou's content in the recipes themselves, 1 for Packt publisher's cookbook format which severely cripples the content with its lack of relevant indexing & labeling. Packt seems obsessed with cut/paste of non-value-added structure titles (Getting Ready, How to do It, How it works, There's more, See also). Those 5 phases are repeated 98 times in the Table of contents (blowing it up to 15 pages instead of concise 3). The skimpy index adds little value to find the relevant sections, unlike any well designed cookbook. Scanning the book is frustrating because the 98 repetitions of the structure headings are bigger and bolder than any other content. I've actually had to take the time to pencil in useful headings on the top-right corner of the pages and essentially create my own index so I can find what I need. I spent the time because the examples were useful and relevant -- if I could only find them when I need them...

I was extremely disappointed in this book. The description makes it sound like the author did a lot of research to develop this Day Trips book on Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Tucson. I found found many errors in the book by just doing simple google searches on the locations. I know the book is 2 years old as of this writing, but some of the incorrect facts have not changed in years according to the multiple sites I contacted. (Example: While the book says cameras are allowed as long as flash is not used at Kartchner Caverns State Park, the website clearly states no type of cameras are allowed including cell phones). I called the park and they told me this rule has been in effect since 2011. Another item that makes this book substandard is there are NO PICTURES of any of the trip sites. Something most people expect in this type of book. In fact, the same stock black and white photo is used more than 35 times in the book! It is the same photo that is used for the cover (at least the cover is in color). That alone showed how little effort went into researching this book. There is really NOTHING that a simple Google search would not do better. I was really looking forward to this being a useful guide for my trip to Arizona, but alas it is nothing more then dated, incorrect facts. Look elsewhere.

Used this book for many of the days we spent in the Phoenix area. I loved the way it organized day trips for you. The directions are perfect and descriptions accurate. This would be the one book I'd pick if I were going to choose a book again. I was saddened by the things listed we were unable to do because of lack of time! Also, I learned that Arizona is huge! Being situated in Phoenix, the Tucson and Flagstaff day trips would take a half day to get to. And, of course, I wanted to do some of them so badly, I will be going back and taking this book with me!

Great little book that gives you ideas for things to do and explore if you don't know the area. It has decent recommendations of not only what to see but the prices involved and the difficulty in getting there.I used it several times on my trip, along with another book. Well written and concise.

This book delivers some good ideas for day trips around Arizona. I have lived here for almost twenty years and found several places to visit in the book I had not thought of before. We have tried one of the trips in the book. All the information in the book was accurate and up to date. looking forward to trying some a bit further afield.

this is a nice book, lots of places to go and info. I wish they would make a motorbike , non highway version though.

Very well-written resource with practical details. I bought this for my folks who recently bought a winter home near Phoenix & now I think I should buy a copy for myself so I can "study up" before I visit them!

Very disappointing travel book! Every photo in this book is of Montezuma’s castle.- there literally are no others! If the author actually traveled to these places wouldn’t it too easy to add an actual photo of that place???? I seriously think this is worst travel book I have ever purchased.

Excellent collection of trips. Lots of really useful information. I will probably wear this book out re-reading it.

This is an excellent book that systematically explains the evolution of America's crime control policy in the African American community. Starting with the President Johnson's Great Society programs and anti-poverty initiatives, Hinton traces how these programs which started out dealing with unemployment, social isolation and marginalization as one of the main factors in black poverty and crime but over time morphed into programs that did not support community participation and improvement but rather focused on punitive measures to contain the symptoms of poverty rather than its root cause. The author argues that this change started with the urban uprisings in the 1960's when violence and criminality in the black community began to be viewed as more of a as a cultural pathology inherent within the group of people and their community rather than as a reaction to the desperate situations that many of these communities were in. This is in contrast to the treatment of white poverty especially that in a rural setting which was treated more as a problem that could be overcome with proper assistance rather than just contained and punished. The author argues that once started down this road anti crime measures and the policing of the black community became a kind of self sustaining system as the view of crime in minority communities became to be viewed exclusively as a law enforcement issue from one administration to the next. Even though the programs ( which had hundreds of millions of dollars spent on them never seemed to achieve their goals) successive administrations continued to throw money at them since they viewed them as the only way to contain if not fix the problem of "black criminality" a concept that was a creation of the very programs that the government had created. As I read this I was reminded of the concept of the " self licking ice cream cone": a program or policy that souly exists to combat a problem that it has created and identified. I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the history of law enforcement policy or the history of the black community.

Very well researched book that gives strong evidence of the failure of our country to do anything useful about structural inequality. It's detail can be tedious at times, but that is essential to the thesis.

Ms. Hinton makes a very convincing case to locate baselines for our current mass incarceration strategies. While the threads of the incarceration-industrial complex are nefariously intertwined into our culture, the roots of these coursing networks are framed in our national disgraces: slavery, poverty and and a sustained inequality of power distribution. Ms. Hinton and Ms. Alexander ("The New Jim Crow") are voices that need amplification and reiteration in our society. Both are must reads.

An interesting and enlightening hypothesis on contemporary american social dynamics

Excellent read on well intended policies that never achieve what they promised. and the politics that drive them.As young woman, Hinton has a very wise and realistic view of society.

This book is required reading if you want to understand crime, poverty, or race in America. If you liked the New Jim Crow, you will LOVE Hinton's book. I couldn't put it down.

I've been in and around development, mostly international, for over 45 years, and what From the War on Poverty to the War on Crime revealed was a real eye opener for me. I liked that Professor Hinton spreads the blame around to both political parties, all ideological factions and no one escapes unscathed. And, yet, the insanity continues as generation after generation of mostly minority men's lives are sacrificed to the gods' of justice and safety. Read this one and weep, but this is no daytime soap opera.

4 ½ of 5 StarsMatt Wendell is a lady’s man. He goes through girls like water, staying away from commitment. He is challenged by his best friend, Alex, to become friends with a girl; and Alex has the perfect girl to help him with the task, his cousin, Sasha.First, let me admit that I am bad and did not read the initial two Dating Tutor books. I bought them both, and they are patiently waiting in my “to read” pile. I will say that after reading Matt’s story, they will be moved up on the list. I had no problem following the story. If anything, it just made me want to read the other two books.I love Matt. He’s such a guy. I like that he takes his challenge seriously, especially considering he is a freshman on the hockey team at Boston College, where there are many female opportunities. I like that he is patient and does not give up, not just withSasha, but with hockey as well. Some people would be easily frustrated and just complain instead of doing something about it, where Matt tries harder.Sasha is awesome. I love that she puts Matt in his place. I like that she plays on the women’s soccer team and gives Matt a new appreciation for women’s sports.Ultimately, I think the challenge was perfect for them both. It gives Sasha time to mend her broken heart and Matt a new perspective on women.I appreciate Melissa Frost’s writing style. It is easy to follow and understand. Matt’s story was a fast read that I did not want to put down. I really enjoyed the narrative, and it was the perfect length.A gifted copy was provided by author/publisher for an honest review.

This was a cute read involving two young college students. Sasha was trying to teach Matt how to be friends with a girl and Matt wanted more from Sash. I loved the back and forth struggle from the two trying to fight what they both want but also trying to stay true to their promises! All in all a great story!

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. This was a very cute romance, I enjoyed it greatly! I loved Matt and Sasha from the start, absolutely a worthwhile and entertaining read. Highly recommend.

Great sequel to the great original! Also nice to see Ellie and Alec again!

What a beautiful and fascinating book! Gorgeous to look at, and fun to read. My favorite chapter was Orange -- who knew there was no name for the color before the introduction of the fruit?

There's so much knowledge in this book, worn so gracefully. I learned something new (and usually something astonishing) on every page, but the book never feels didactic or ponderous. It's brilliantly and invitingly written, and never strays far from the sheer joy of *seeing* color (the gorgeous images don't hurt). I came away from this book feeling like I'd been listening in on Farthing's and Kastan's conversations; it's hard to imagine better guides to the nature and culture of color.

Kastan and Farthing’s On Color manages to be both provocative and playful, able to move from Bertrand Russell to “The Dress” of internet fame with intellectual dexterity and wit. And the book is not only a great read: the edition from Yale is beautifully designed, presenting its own feast of color from the dust jacket to the pastedowns and photos within.

Extremely readable and very interesting! Each chapter explores a different color and highlights something unknown about the subject. I found the chapter on Violet to be my favorite.

Beautiful, brilliant, and a joy to read. Perfect for anyone who loves design, art, history, language, and great writing. You'll get smarter and the world's colors will get a little richer.

The last thing I expected was to laugh out loud several times while reading David Kastan's latest book, “On Color.” It was pure pleasure: smart, witty and illuminating. When I’m getting dressed in the morning I keep hearing Coco Chanel...,‘When I find a color darker than black, I’ll wear it.” At first, after reading the chapter on orange, I was sure it was my new favorite color, but then I got to blue and he made me rush to watch/ listen to Jarman’s ‘Blue." I finally settled on black being closest to my heart after the quote, “It is the dress of pure possibility. It allows everyone to imagine that social gaps can be narrowed and perhaps, if only for a moment, closed.”It is as if Mr. Kastan culled the literary, film and art world for us. I imagine it as a museum that he curated and where I would want to spend hours and hours! I loved every quote, painting, photograph, and anecdote. It felt like the book was cleverly arranged in the same way he described experiencing color, layer upon layer and tapping all our senses.

I have many books on color and each one offers good information. This book takes it a step further and comments on culture and how the names of colors have come about in language. There is much more. Makes for an interesting read and muse. Highly recommend.

I thought this would be a good book, and it is. But it's a little more broad than Kassia St Clair's 2016 the Secret Life of Colors. I really preferred St Clair's book. If you're purchasing for a designer or artist friend, get St Clair's book. This book would be best for someone with a literary bent.

I am returning this Haggadah. I was looking for a Haggadah that I could use with my family that includes teenagers, seniors and some who have never been to a seder. The book itself is beautifully illustrated, but omits simple parts of the Seder such as naming all the parts of the Seder plate/ it was also choppy in its sequencing which is strange considering Seder means order. I was hoping to like these as I bought 12, but am now back to square one in my search. Do not buy.

Simple, easy to follow book. Nice pictures. I like that it includes a brief story of Passover. Everything is in here, just in a simple, brief format. You can skip sections if you want, and read what you want. Plus, there are sort of discussion questions on the left hand page if you want to think more deeply about the seder. This book seems to include some pieces that more religious people would look for like hand washing and full grace after meals. I'm not that religious but the format of this book allows us to easily skip the parts we don't want to do. I like that it includes some of our favorite end of seder songs like One Kid and Who Knows One?

In no uncertain words......these Haggadahs are AMAZING!!!! Our Seder was wonderful because of them. Our age range was from 10 to 60. Everyone commented how interesting and fun they made our Seder. Everyone spontaneously participated and loved doing so!

Fantastic ~ I bought these as an upgrade to the ones we've been using that my kids made in Sunday school 10 years ago....time for an updated sedar for young teenagers. The books are pretty, content is easy to follow, nice pictures and the perfect length service for our family.

We really enjoyed this Haggadah. We changed to this new one after using the same one for 25yrs. This Family one was very easy to navigate. It’s also very kid friendly and that’s what Passover should be. It’s a short Haggadah meaning your service won’t be long.

Great Haggadah for a diverse family. We have members who are reform, some who are conservative, and some who are barely observant. This works for all of them.

Good book easy to proceed with the process of a Seder.A little bit confusing but probably for the beginners but it's still a good product

Haven't used them yet, but was looking for a simplified version for our mixed marriage family. These are also cost effective that I was able to purchase 10 books without breaking the bank. Looking forward to using them for Passover.
